Our members are community leaders and professionals who embrace the association’s mission and strive to make a difference within their area of influence. The achievements of our members demonstrate our strength as an organization.
The SF Bay Area Chapter of the NBMBAA® has a strong commitment to public service and educational programming for our members’ professional and executive career development.
VISION
Our vision is to facilitate connections and growth opportunities between Black professionals, corporations, and the community through an integrated 360° approach.
Mission
Our local mission is to enhance and promote educational opportunities, professional training, and business development within the Black community. We serve to:
- Provide innovative programs to stimulate their intellectual and economic growth
- Build partnerships with key stakeholders who help facilitate this growth
- Increase awareness and facilitate access to graduate education programs and career opportunities in management fields
Our Core Focus Areas
PEOPLE
Recruit.
- Attract, develop and retain members of the highest integrity.
- Develop informational sessions to help inform prospective students and professionals about the association.
- Ensure that the full breadth of our mission resonates with members, partners, and the community.
Engage.
- Recruit members to serve as committee leads, elected officers and Board Chairs.
- Create opportunities to link business professionals with corporate partners, including mentoring.
- Promote volunteer service in the community.
- Recruit members to serve as mentors for our students and young professionals.
- Events to help members grow professionally and become more active with our local events.
Create.
- Build a community of like-minded individuals who support each other’s growth and success.
- Increase the value proposition for individual members by offering services and benefits demonstrating the added value of belonging.
- Develop our member’s leadership opportunities through internal and external Board service.
PROGRAMMING
Relevant.
- Create content based on academic and career-level relevancy.
- Recruit speakers that are experts in their fields.
- Ensure content is aligned with the career level of the membership base.
Approach.
- Develop programs, projects, and services with measurable results.
- Focus on the “Business of” versus the whole industry.
- Develop series programming instead of one-off sessions/workshops
- Ensure consistency between in-person and virtual approach
Exclusive.
- Provide member-only access to exclusive member opportunities and training.
Partnerships
Intentional.
- Ensure that the full breadth of our mission resonates with members, partners, and the community.
- Build key partnerships with government entities, corporations, and academic institutions that intentionally diversify their workforce and advance Black professionals.
- Develop MOUs with local and national universities and become a model for other chapters to leverage.
Mutual.
- Foster mutually beneficial relationships that create a diversified pipeline for recruiting Black professionals and suppliers.
- Ensure corporate and academic partners share our vision of diversity & inclusion and advancing Black professionals, students, and entrepreneurs
- Grants access to a diverse body of leaders at all levels.
- Assist in achieving critical business objectives like professional development, branding, recruiting retention, and corporate social responsibility goals.
Sustainable.
- Ensure partners receive ROI through active engagement from their internal sources.
- Develop and implement corporate-sponsored programs that provide scholarships and financial support for business students (Ph.D., graduate, and undergraduate).
- Create mentoring and speaking opportunities as a way to link business professionals with corporate partners’ staff with membership.
