SF Black MBA Collegiate Scholarships
2022 Undergrad and Grad Scholarship Application
The National Black MBA Association provides more than half a million dollars annually in scholarships to undergraduates, graduates, and doctoral students pursuing careers in business. Our mission is to increase the pool of Black talent in industry across public, private, and non-profit sectors.
About Our Scholarship
The SF Black MBA Collegiate Scholarship is available for full-time or part-time students pursuing their undergraduate or graduate degree in business, management, organizational behavior, or other business-related fields from an accredited doctorate program in Central or Northern California during the Spring-Fall 2023 academic year.
Scholarships will be awarded to eligible applicants who exhibit a significant gap in financial resources needed to pay for their undergraduate or graduate college education.

Eligibility Criteria
IMPORTANT
When starting an application, please use an email address you will continue to operate beyond this year. This email account will communicate all necessary information, including the final applicants selected for scholarships and any requirements you may have to receive your award. If you change your email address, please let us know asap by emailing us at scholarships@sfnbmbaa.org.
Doctorate Eligibility
A. Black/African-American students (US Citizens or green card holders).
B. Must be a current member of the SF Bay Area Chapter of the NBMBAA when the application is submitted.
C.Full-time or part-time student pursuing their DBA or Ph.D. degree in a business-related field during the 2022-2023 academic year at an accredited undergraduate or graduate school in Central or Northern California or an accredited online program.
D. Applicants will be evaluated based on the areas outlined under Selection.
E. Student has not won more than two scholarships from the San Francisco Chapter.
Graduate Eligibility
A. Black/African-American students (US Citizens or green card holders).
B. Must be a current member of the SF Bay Area Chapter of the NBMBAA when the application is submitted.
C.Full-time or part-time students pursuing their MBA or Master’s degree in a business-related field during the 2022-2023 academic year at an accredited undergraduate or graduate school in Central or Northern California or an accredited online program.
D. Applicants will be evaluated based on the areas outlined under Selection.
E. Student has not won more than two scholarships from the San Francisco Chapter.
Undergraduate Eligibility
A. Black/African-American students (US Citizens or green card holders).
B. Must be a current member of the SF Bay Area Chapter of the NBMBAA at the time the application is submitted.
C. Full-time or part-time students pursuing their Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field during the 2022-2023 academic year at an accredited undergraduate or graduate school in Central or Northern California or an accredited online program.
D. Applicants will be evaluated based on the areas outlined under Selection.
E. Student has not won more than two scholarships from the San Francisco Chapter.
Application Requirements
A complete application consists of the following:
- Completed San Francisco Bay Area Chapter 2022 Scholarship Application.
- An official acceptance letter from the university or graduate school.
- Completed essay on leadership experience. It should not exceed 350 words.
- Completed brief essay on how the scholarship will benefit your academic and career goals. It should not exceed 350 words.
- Current resume.
- Two non-relative references.
- A recent photograph for publicity purposes.
- 30-60 second short video stating how the scholarship will support your education and career.
Selection Criteria
- For scholarship consideration, a minimum score of 85% out of 100% on the essay is required.
- Final selections will be based on the candidate’s essay, academic achievements, community, and extracurricular activities.
Participation Requirements
- Scholarship winners agree to participate in the annual Scholarship alum event and at least one (1) additional educational activity of the San Francisco NBMBAA during the year the funds are awarded (November 2022 – November 2023).
- Scholarship winners will receive a two-year undergraduate or graduate NBMBAA® membership. Fees will be deducted from the scholarship award unless the winner is already an active member of the NBMBAA®.
Phone interviews will be conducted in the event of a tie.
Terms

- Scholarships will be presented at the Annual Scholarship and Awards event on Saturday, November 19, 2022. Scholarship winners must be present.
- Applications without an affidavit, photo, resume, or essays will be considered incomplete and disqualify your entry.
- All scholarship funds are paid directly to the school and are applied for the Spring or Fall 2023 semester.
- Winners will be notified no later than October 31, 2022, and will receive their award after officially verifying full-time enrollment during the Fall 2022 – Spring 2023 or Spring 2023 – Fall 2023 academic school year.
